Family Literacy 2024

About Family Literacy 2024

The Family Literacy Initiative (FLI) program begins Year Nine of this literacy home-based, highly effective multi-generational early childhood program at the beginning of 2024. FLI continues to interact with families in five economically-challenged communities in Liberia: WestPoint, Caldwell, Duazon, Neezoe, and Nyemah. The program works with parents through home visits, giving them the skills, tools, and confidence, they need to become their child’s first teacher. Moreover, it prepares children for success in school and life and also provides opportunity for empowerment, through employment of home visitors from the five communities. Because of a cut-back in funding, WE-CARE will only be working with children in Year 2 and Year 3 of the program--children four and five years of age. We hope to be able to secure additional funding to change this in the following year.

Together with HIPPY-International, Comic Relief US, and WE-CARE, we are committed to a program that will:

(1) increase parents’ literacy levels along with their children’s, and
(2) have a lasting and sustainable two-generational impact.
